PUMPKIN TORTE RECIPE by Gail Damerow, from "The Perfect Pumpkin" (Storey books) Prepare sugar crust: 1 C sifted flour 1/4 C brown sugar 1/3 C butter 1/2 C finely chopped walnuts Mix ingredients together, press in 8x8 inch square pan, bake crust for 20 minutes at 350 degrees. Prepare filling: 3 oz cream cheese, 1 egg, 2 cups pumpkin puree*, 1 can condensed milk, 1/2 tsp cinnamon, 1/8 tsp nutmeg, 1/8 tsp cloves, 1/8 tsp ginger, 1 cup hot water. Beat together ingredients. Pour mixed filling into pie shell. Bake at 350 for 50 minutes. Top may be garnished with walnut halves.
